November "Mission Moments"

Post date: Nov 20, 2012 7:54:45 PM

The 4th and 5th Grade students at Sacred Heart School have completed their Cans for Christ Project. For the past four weeks, the students have been earning food items by doing extra chores around their homes or neighborhoods. Our goal was to send 335 items to TEAM to help feed our hungry brothers and sisters in North County. We happily exceeded our goal! Monsignor Mark Ullrich recently blessed 467 items before they were sent to the food pantry. All of the food needed to be a gift from the students themselves, not from their parents. Raking leaves, cleaning the garage, and extra babysitting became labors of love and care for others, as students were paid with cans of soup or boxes of macaroni. Living the Gospel message to feed the hungry and care for the poor became a reality for these young Christians.

On November 12, we celebrated Veteran's Day with a flag ceremony accompanied with taps and patriotic songs. This day also was a kickoff for our support of the troops by collecting snack items. We will be sending these items to the troops oversees.
