On Wednesday during Holy Week, Christ Light of the Nations School concluded the short week of school with a retreat day. The day started with Mass celebrated by Father Tim. After Mass Mrs. Dafflitto introduced the retreat day which centered around Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday. The students then returned to school to spend an hour of the retreat day with their own class, doing various activities depending on the grade level. At 10:30 they gathered by school families in the cafeteria for the symbolic washing of the hands (in place of washing of the feet) and a Seder meal led by Judy Krenn.

This gave students a small taste of what Jesus and his disciples were doing on that first Holy Thursday Night. After having a simple meal with no dessert for lunch, we met at church for the stations of the cross. This prayer of Jesus’s walk to Calvary and His death was planned by Mrs. Akers with the help of the 8th graders and the students who led the stations on Grandparents’ Day. Following this walk of Good Friday, they moved on to Holy Saturday. Finally, the students celebrated the New Life of the risen Jesus by coloring Easter Eggs, which are signs of new life. Each child took home the Easter egg they colored. Students and faculty felt it was a special gift to be able to spend the day as an entire school community reflecting on the life of Jesus.
