Worship Space Work-in-Progress
Tolton Hall Under Construction at Christ Light of the Nations

Christ Light of the Nations School has been busy this summer creating a worship space in the cafeteria for next year.  At the end of the 2017-18 school year Our Lady’s chapel was closed and is being prepared for sale.  Christ Light used their North County Enhancement Grant to create a new worship site for the school community.

So far, the crew has repainted the cafeteria (the site of the new worship space), taken down an old curtain that separated the cafeteria into two rooms and purchased new tables with chairs to enable conversion of the cafeteria into a church-like setting for Mass days and other liturgical functions. Here are a few photos of the work-in-progress:

The new worship and assembly space has been named, “Tolton Hall”.  Father August Tolton was the first Roman Catholic black priest in the United States.  He was ordained in 1886.

Welcomes and Farewells: The end of June is the time of year when pastors who have been reassigned transition to their new parishes.  Our North County Deanery will welcome several new priests: Rev. Thomas J. Haley will return to north county as pastor of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Rev. Eric F. Olsen will become parochial administrator of Holy Trinity Parish in St. Ann and Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Ferguson, Rev. Peter Fonesca will join Sacred Heart Parish as associate pastor, Rev. Gerson A. Parra Meza, newly ordained, will be associate pastor of Holy Trinity Parish in St. Ann and Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Ferguson and Rev. John Nickolai will join St. Rose Philippine Duchesne Parish as associate pastor.  We bid a fond farewell to Rev. Robert Rosebrough (Fr. Rosy) who is retiring from Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Rev. Msgr. Francis Blood who will become pastor of Holy Rosary Parish in Warrenton, Rev. Steve Robeson who will become pastor of St. Ignatius of Loyola Parish in Concord Hill, Rev. Paul Hamilton who will be associate pastor at St. Peter in Kirkwood and Rev. John O'Brien who will be on the faculty at St. John's Seminary in California. Also, Father Jeff Putthoff, S.J. is the new president of Trinity Catholic High School, succeeding Sister Karl Mary Winkelmann who is retiring.

And, beginning July 1st, Miss Julie Smith will be the new principal at All Saints Academy - St. Norbert Campus and Mrs. Kelly Hewitt will be the new principal at Holy Spirit School.  We send our best wishes to Mrs. Pam Gilbert, who is retiring, and Mrs. Jill Gould who will be principal at St. Patrick School in Wentzville.

The Federation of Catholic Schools welcomes these new leaders to North County and we look forward to their input and participation in our collaborative work!

Summer Tutoring: Several teachers from our Federation schools are available for private tutoring (for a fee) during the summer months. If you would like a list of the teachers with their contact information, please e-mail your request to advancement@federationofcatholicschools.org.

All Saints Academy: As of July 1, 2018 the new All Saints Academy partnership school will be officially open! Pastors, principals and parent leaders from St. Ferdinand, St. Norbert and St. Rose Philippine Duchense have been working together with Mr. Danzeisen from the Office of Catholic Education and Formation for the past year to prepare some of the details. All are ready to move forward with the inaugural school year for All Saints Academy, with each of the three parish campuses enrolling preschool through 8th grade!  Stay tuned for more updates.

Teacher Retreat Day: The Federation of Catholic Schools is looking forward to hosting a faculty retreat day for all teachers as they prepare to being a new school year. The retreat will be August 9 at Cardinal Rigali Center.  Father Ronny O'Dwyer, Director of the Billiken Teacher Corps, will be leading this day of prayer and recollection for our wonderful teachers!

Digital Billboard Ad to Promote Catholic School Enrollment
Be on the lookout for our digital billboard ad at McDonnell Blvd and I-270, facing west so that drivers on eastbound I-270 can see the message. Our ad will be displayed for 10 seconds at a time, 40 times per day.  The Federation of Catholic Schools was able to secure this ad placement at a discounted rate thanks to our membership in North County Inc.
