Federation of Catholic Schools
Back to School Blessings!
Last week, after a summer of planning and preparing (with a little rest & relaxation, too), the faculty and staff at our eight Catholic elementary schools in north county were blessed and excited to welcome nearly 2,000 students back for the 2016-17 school year.   Here are just a few of the many smiling back to school photos that were snapped last week - share yours with us on our Federation of Catholic Schools Facebook page or send it by e-mail!

Back to School 2016

As members of the Federation of Catholic Schools, we will again work together in several ways. For the 7th year, teachers from all schools will participate in Professional Learning Teams.  On a few Fridays throughout the school year, teachers of the same grade level and/or subject matter gather to share best practices and support one another in solving classroom challenges. And, for the third year SSM Health DePaul Hospital will sponsor the CatholicFIT program in the spring, where all 3rd and 6th grade students learn about the connection between faith and fitness in their P.E. classes.

Please join us in prayer for all teachers, students and families as they return to their studies and grow in their faith in Jesus Christ!

A Prayer for Students
Lord our God,
in your wisdom and love
you surround us with the mysteries of the universe.
Send your Spirit upon these students
and fill them with your wisdom and blessings.
Grant that they may
devote themselves to their studies
and draw ever closer to you,
the source of all knowledge.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
R/. Amen.

A Prayer for Teachers

 Lord God,
your spirit of wisdom fills the earth
and teaches us your ways.
Look upon these teachers.
Let them strive to share their knowledge with gentle patience
and endeavor always to bring the truth to eager minds.
Grant that they may follow Jesus Christ,
the way, the truth, and the life,
forever and ever.
R/. Amen.

Joy is a net of love

Please join Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish for a special celebration this Sunday, August 28th.  Archbishop Robert Carlson will celebrate mass at 10:30 am in honor of the anticipated canonization of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta by Pope Francis on September 4, 2016.

NE Deanery Children's Choir
Auditions This Month
The Northeast Deanery Children’s Choir is about to begin its 3 rd season. We have openings for children who love to sing, wish to expand their musical skills, and use their talent in praise of our Lord. The NDCC travels to churches within the Northeast Deanery to lead music for Mass once a month during the school year. This Choir is for children in grades 4 – 8 who do not otherwise have an opportunity to sing in their own parish children’s choir. Auditions will take place the week of August 29. For more information and/or to schedule an audition, contact Theresa McWilliams

Children's Choir members also have FUN together. Check out the family smiles in this photo taken at a spring picnic earlier this year!

Spread the Word! Follow our Schools and Parishes on Facebook

Many of our NE Deanery schools and parishes are becoming more active on social media, especially Facebook.  Please consider "Liking" these pages on Facebook and sharing their posts when something may be of interest to your network!

Think about why you choose (or chose if you have alumni) a Catholic school for your children. Share your thoughts on social media or simply in conversation with friends and family members.
And, most importantly, PRAY for our students, teachers, principals, pastors, parishioners and all who support Catholic education in our community.

Other North County Catholic institutions are also on Facebook - be sure to follow them, too!

A Message from Trinity Catholic High School Admissions Office

Trinity has been honored and blessed to partner with incredible Parishes and elementary schools like yours. Superior, Catholic Education will always be available at Trinity Catholic High School. Trinity will again be hosting of the Archdiocesan High School Night on Thursday, October 6th. We invite you to come and see the power and influence of secondary, Catholic education, and the power and influence of our Trinity Titans! Students in 7th and 8th grades are also highly encouraged to schedule a Shadow visit to Trinity, where you can get a first-hand look at what a life-changing high school experience is really like! If your family ever needs help connecting with important resources for making the best decision for your student, call or email the Office of Admissions at 314-741-1333 ext. 223

The Trinity experience is one that all students should be able to engage in. Look out for information regarding our Comprehensive Scholarship Program, recognizing dozens of Catholic elementary students in our area for their tremendous achievements through 8th grade!

Living Mercy - Confirmation Rally at Trinity Catholic High School set for September 16
On September 16, junior high students will gather for the 10th year in a row at Trinity Catholic High School for a day-long retreat and rally led by The Reap Team.  Deacon Bill Twellman from St. Norbert organizes this event each year, in cooperation with directors of religious education, principals and teachers from each school.
This event helps to kick off the school year for these students, many of whom are preparing to receive the sacrament of Confirmation next spring.  They will hear engaging witness talks, participate in small group discussions, enjoy a pizza lunch and some time to get to know one another, and learn a little more about vocations, peace & justice and the sacrament of reconciliation during afternoon breakout sessions.  The day will conclude with Mass celebrated by Fr. Chris Martin, Director of Vocations for the Archdiocese of St. Louis.
We are grateful to The Koch Foundation for the evangelization grant they have provided in support of this event.

    What's Beyond Sunday?
Eight of our Northeast Deanery Parishes are currently conducting the Beyond Sunday Education Campaign.  Learn more about this historic campaign to secure the future of Catholic Education. These parishes are in the third and final block of the campaign, which has already been able to offer scholarships to over 1,000 middle-income families to attend Catholic elementary schools and high schools. Up to $750,000 in Beyond Sunday Academic Capacity Enhancement and Transformational Innovation Grants will also be available for the 2017-18 school year.  The Federation of Catholic Schools as a group, as well as individual schools, are eligible to apply for these grants, and we are now working on ideas for specific applications. If your parish is currently conducting the Beyond Sunday campaign, please prayerfully consider how you might participate!
