Teachers Learn More about their SENSATIONAL Preschoolers from
SSM Health Cardinal Glennon
Occupational Therapist

IMG_3250
How big is your cup for sensory input?  Sarah Harris, OTD, OTR/L, Occupational Therapist at SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center, spend the afternoon on Friday, March 4th helping preschool teachers from our Federation schools navigate the complex concepts of sensory processing and integration.

Harris explained the basic concepts and four general categories that children (and adults, too) fall within when it comes to sensory processing: bystanders, seekers, sensors and avoiders.  She provided tips and suggestions for how teachers can identify and respond to certain student behaviors related to sensory processing.  The teachers all received a copy of Harris' presentation and her contact information for follow up with questions and further consultation with particular classroom issues.

This is a great example of how the Professional Learning Teams and community partnerships are providing resources to teachers who are serving the students and families of our schools and parishes in the Northeast Deanery Federation of Catholic Schools.

Our Kids and Families
are Getting CatholicFIT

Students in 3rd and 6th grades are learning about how their faith and fitness are connected - how being healthy in body, mind and spirit enables us to serve as Jesus calls us to!

7th Graders Experience High School as
Titans for the Day at Trinity Catholic

As 7th grade students look ahead to next year when they and their parents will be choosing which high school to attend, they had the opportunity to spend a day at Trinity Catholic on February 24th to get a glimpse at the high school experience. Students reported to home room, navigated the hallways as they changed classes to learn about different subjects, and even had the chance to take an elective or two - like art, computer or engineering.  Director of Advancement and Admissions, Kevin McKenna, complimented the students for their participation and behavior, "Thanks so much for visiting us," said McKenna. "Our teachers, staff and student ambassadors had a great day and we hope that you did, too!"

Federation of Catholic Schools Receives $10,000 Grant from Koch Foundation for Sacramental Preparation Retreats

This week we received notification from the Koch Foundation, Inc. that they have awarded a $10,000 grant to the NE Deanery Federation of Catholic Schools for sacramental preparation retreats in the 2016-17 school year.  This funding will be used for the annual Confirmation preparation retreat for 7th and 8th graders at Trinity High School (scheduled for Friday, September 16) and also for a new effort to bring 2nd graders and their families together as they prepare to receive First Reconciliation and First Communion.  This is the third grant that the Federation has received from the Koch Foundation, and we are so grateful for their generosity and continued support of our collaborative evangelization efforts. Watch for more details about how these funds will be used in the coming year.

PRESENTATION FOR PARENTS AND EDUCATORS: NATIONAL CYBER SAFETY EXPERT TINA MEIER

Our Federation of Catholic Schools has invited Tina Meier, founder of the Megan Meier Foundation, to present to parents and educators from our schools and parishes on Monday, April 25th at 7pm at the PARISH HALL at St. Rose Philippine Duchesne (1220 Paddock Drive, Florissant).

This presentation provides an overview of the technology that students are using in today's world. Life is much different for students today than it was even 4 years ago. As parents and educators, it is imperative that we continually educate ourselves to become better equipped to help our children. Megan Meier's story will be shared along with the topics of bullying, bystanders, cyberbullying and sexting. A question and answer session will be available at the end of the presentation. (see more online at http://www.meganmeierfoundation.org/list-of-presentations.html)
