Beyond Sunday
Federation of Catholic Schools Receives $50,000 Beyond Sunday Transformational Innovation Grant

The Roman Catholic Foundation of Eastern Missouri has announced that our North County Deanery Federation of Catholic Schools will receive a $50,000 Beyond Sunday Grant for the 2019-20 school year in support of our collaboration to embrace the gift of cultural, racial, religious and economic diversity in our schools and parishes.  Read more about the grant program and this year's recipients on the Roman Catholic Foundation's website.

Embracing diversity has been an area of responsibility for the Federation of Catholic Schools since it began in 2010. In September 2018, pastors and principals of the Federation formed a committee to explore ways our schools and parishes can collaborate in the area of Diversity and Inclusion, which resulted in the Beyond Sunday grant application.  The project calls for a Diversity & Inclusion Consultant to work with Core Teams all the schools of the Federation in the 2019-20 school year to develop specific Diversity & Inclusion Plans and provide best practices and resources for responding to the needs of a diverse community in the context of the beliefs and teachings of the Catholic Church.  This grant enables the Federation to leverage outside resources to place a focus on the important work of Diversity & Inclusion in our North County community. Stay tuned for more details as the committee continues its work!

Beyond Sunday grants have benefitted our North County schools each year since they began with the 2017-18 school year, when the Federation received a $100,000 grant for each of the 10 schools to have a set of Chromebooks and at least one Google Certified Educator to serve as the schools' technology coordinator.  Among many other uses, middle school students have used the Chromebooks to sharpen basic math skills using programs such as Xtramath.  In 2018-19 the Office of Catholic Education and Formation's Department of Special Education received a $75,000 Beyond Sunday Grant to expand a program that provides access to a Speech Language Pathologist and School Counselor on-site at each school for early intervention special education services.  For 2019-20, Holy Spirit School also received a $17,000 Beyond Sunday Academic Capacity Enhancement Grant for a new STREAM Lab (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Arts & Math).

Upcoming Events at North County Deanery Parishes

Our Catholic parish communities in North County offer many opportunities each month for faith formation and fun and fellowship.   Below are a few examples - check for details in the weekly parish bulletins.

Padre Pio and I

Next Friday, May 3rd at 7:00pm, we have the honor of hosting a once in a lifetime experience. Adolfo Affatato will be speaking in church about his personal experiences and knowledge of St. Padre Pio. At the age of 16, Adolfo was called by name out of a crowd of men by Padre Pio. He had never met Padre Pio before and he became a "spiritual son" of Padre Pio. He is one of the last people alive who personally knew Padre Pio.

If you are not familiar with Padre Pio, he worked many miracles in his lifetime, and he bore the marks (stigmata) of the wounds Christ suffered during his crucifixion.

CLICK HERE to watch a short video from Mike Roberts (former KSDKMeteorologist) regarding Adolfo's visit.

This is a presentation you will be talking about for many years to come. Please join us as we learn about the life of Padre Pio from Adolfo's personal experiences.
